QuikVue Vet Case Share - Equine Stromal Abscess

We are glad to share a vet case study captured by QuikVue eye imaging adaptor from Dr. Allison Fuchs.

Another horse with another stromal abscess! Horses really love to get infected corneal ulcers that heal over with bacterial or fungal organisms trapped in the deeper layers, creating an abscess. These are difficult to treat because not only can the organisms be resistant to, but we need to get medications that reach those layers. Most topical therapy doesn't penetrate once the epithelium is healed, so it's important to choose things that do. Alternatively, we can use systemic medications when we have a blood supply, local injections which may help deliver therapy fast to the site, or open the area surgically to remove the infected tissue and allow medication to get there. Every patient is going to have slightly different needs depending on the presentation, location and extent of the disease, and individual patient factors. We're starting by altering medical therapy for this case!
