QuikVue Vet Case Study—Aphakic Crescent

We are glad to share a vet case study captured by QuikVue eye imaging adaptor from Dr.Allison Fuchs.

What an interesting case! This dog presented for a breeding soundness eye exam, which we call a OFA CAER exam (companion animal eye registry). The owner is doing their due diligence to have the dog evaluated for any major eye diseases that could cause vision loss or discomfort and are potentially heritable. As you can see, this dog’s right eye is very abnormal compared to the normal left eye. There is a cataract present, and a beautiful example of an aphakic crescent where the lens is not attached to the normal zonular attachments. Currently this is not causing any issues and no one had any idea that this was an issue, which is why these dilated exams are so important! While this dog will not pass OFA certification and should probably not be bred, now we know there’s an issue and can monitor.
